Augmented Reality in Election Campaign

Today I came to notice the news regarding Techie dies after illegal hoarding falls on her.

Now it's 21st and technology has grown very much. Still, we are using conventional methods like flux boards, hoardings, billboards, etc for marketing and promotional activities.
Today political parties, movies, etc using huge hoardings and cut-outs just to show their influence among people or fans. These types of boards pose a huge threat to nature as well as society and are actually a wastage of money.

How can we solve this problem?

Technology can address these types of problems in a smarter way.

A year back we have thought of this and introduced augmented reality (AR) as an alternative to plastic fluxes.

During the campus election at Govt. Engineering College Thrissur, there were rules that political parties cannot use plastic banners for the campaign. So, they used cloth banners instead of flex which limited the use of colorful pictures. This made us think that why can’t we use augmented reality (AR) for the promotion.

Augmented GEC

And for the first time in Kerala, we have created an augmented reality election campaign through our android app Augmented GEC. When the app’s camera was pointed at the election posters installed by political parties, it showed photos and videos of candidates, campaigns conducted, etc. It was a pilot project and we got a huge response from people and media.

Article about Augmented GEC app in The Hindu newspaper.

After that, we contacted several political parties to implement the same in Loksabha Elections 2019. But none of them showed interest.

The problem for the people is that they only think of a sustainable solution when such incidents occur.
